May 22, 2010 Relay for Life of Orange County – Hillsborough / The American Cancer Society
Terri, The Food Fairy, was invited to participate and educate at this event in Hillsborough, NC last May. American Cancer Society volunteer, Denise Spector, was responsible for, among other things, educating the community about healthy lifestyle practices through good nutrition, weight management and physical activity. As Denise wrote to Terri, “Your cooking demos always seemed to be a highlight for cancer patients/families at the Cornucopia House.” Denise set up an education table for the two day event. On Saturday morning The Food Fairy came and prepared a couple of simple healthy dishes for folks to learn about by watching and tasting. They had time for asking questions and of course got to take a recipe with them. Chapel Hill’s Whole Foods Market http://wholefoodsmarket.com/storesbeta/chapelhill/ donated almost 100% of the raw ingredients! What was on the menu? Surprise Chocolate Pudding (made with avocados, cocoa and maple syrup) served with Strawberries and a Basil Almond Pate with Assorted Veggies for dipping. There were many surprised faces, indeed, as participants delighted in the unusually decadent chocolate confection! http://hillsboroughrelayforlife.com/default.aspx

When A Prairie Home Companion came to Durham in May, 2009, The Food Fairy was selected to cater meals and snacks (hospitality) both Friday and Saturday - two breakfasts, two lunches and one dinner - for the entire cast, guests and crew. Host Garrison Keillor was moved to say, “A Prairie Home Companion never ate so well as when the Food Fairy fed us backstage at Durham in May 2009 – all fresh and light and healthy – just as we wish our show could be."
